According to the ancient art historian Plinius, first painter was a woman called Dibutades, the daughter of Butades the ceramicist. The paintings she made utilised a different technique called Skia Graphos which made by drawing outer lines of shadows reflected on the wall. Thus she painted the shadow her lover left, before he was gone.

The painting is always a process in which the surface records the production processes and the artist’s brushstrokes.

If you watch it, it is like a time period more than an instant. In those series, Dikel records her own shadow in the very moment she was painting the surface. And she uses her shadow as a cosmic window which opens to painterly landscapes. She also calls this ‘Shadow Print’.
